The Philadelphia Building and Construction Trades Council last week held a recognition dinner for All-Star Labor Classic players.

The dinner was held at Sprinkler Fitters Local Union 692, 14004 McNulty Road. The emcee was Wayne Miller, Local 692 business manager and president of the trades council

The guest speaker was Mo Howard, a former player at St. Joseph’s Prep, Maryland and in the NBA for the Cleveland Cavaliers and New Orleans Jazz. Howard was filling in for his son Ashley, recently fired as coach at La Salle University.

Over the years, the classic has raised more than $3 million for local charities. This year’s charitable beneficiary is the Greater Delaware Valley Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The chapter’s president, Kevin Moffitt, offered remarks at the dinner.

The 35th annual classic will take place on Sunday, April 10, at Ridley High School. Each participating player receives a $500 scholarship to continue their higher education pursuits.

The games will be City vs. Suburbs. The girls will play at 12:15 p.m., followed by the boys at 2:30.

Local players attending the dinner were Tori Nigro [a Winchester Park resident who played at Villa Joseph Marie this year], Jalen Flowers [Father Judge], Elliot Raymond [Frankford] and Patrick Reidy [MaST Charter].

Other local athletes selected to play in the game are Brianna Buckley [MaST], Gianna Grassifulli [St. Hubert], Kathleen Harmon [Nazareth Academy] and Delaney Maier [Franklin Towne]. ••
